ARTIVISM at the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam

From September 2016 to September 2018, 8 artistic demonstrations have been performed at the Van Gogh Museum of Amsterdam. The movement Fossil Free Culture asks the museum to stop their partnership with Shell, explaining that cultural institutions must not receive fundings from the fossil fuel companies.

Here are presented 4 of the 8 protests performed.
The first one, during the exhibition "On the verge of insanity" shows four men dressed as hospital patients, representing Vincent Van Gogh, affected by illness because of oil.
The second protect took place on the stairs of the museum, performed by 7 women, the muses, sipping and dripping oil from their lips.

1 year after, the group performed "Shell's dirty hands" on the windows of the museum, to remind them that oil money stains the Dutch culture.

In September 2018, the Van Gogh Museum announced they stop the partnership with Shell. Click here for more information about FossilFreeCulture and the decision.
